The problem

We're developing a coil coating for steel, and in the first trials it cracks during forming. Below are 10 factors that we can change. Tell me which of them influence impact resistance and give me the settings that maximize it. The response is reverse impact in inch-pounds to the first crack. Higher is better. Only settings inside the ranges are allowed, and the measurements are noisy.

Column Factor Unit Low, −1 High, +1
Binder and additives
X01 Binder blend ratio (soft share) % 0 40
X02 Elastomer modifier % 0 8
X03 Plasticizer % 0 5
X04 Silane coupling agent % 0 1.5
Pigment and filler
X05 Filler median particle size µm 1 10
X06 Pigment volume concentration % 20 40
X07 Dispersant % 0.5 1.5
Application and cure
X08 Dry film thickness µm 50 90
X09 Peak metal temperature °C 216 241
X10 Oven dwell time s 25 45
